Burt was the best. Sally was beautiful. Jerry was cool. Jackie was hilarious.
Watch the whole film next time you get the chance. You won't take your eyes off the screen
Always loves that song!
Out of the blue I put the Waylon Jennings station on iHeartRadio. And this song from Jerry Reed is one of the staples that you’ll hear virtually every time you put the station on. Great song and movie. But far and away the most extraordinary part is the role created and played by Jackie Gleason. What a genius!
I’ve lost count how many times I’ve seen this movie. I still laugh every time.
I wonder how many people realized the reason for the truck run? Coors Beer was not sold east of the Mississippi and just that fact made it a desired ‘luxury’ in the East. Pilots were known to store a case or two in ‘unused space’ when traveling east. Legend has it that a C-119 leaving Denver for Georgia had a problem with its ‘center of gravity’ point as too much contraband was improperly stowed. Higher ups in Military Air Transport Service (MATS) were not amused!
In early 77 as my ship was relieved of Med Sea deployment at Rota Spain. As soon as the underway order was given The Old Man had “West Bound and Down” blaring away on the ships 1MC. LOL
Great movie. Thanks!
A great time. People LVOED big engines and big cars. Women were allowed to show off their, ehem, assets. Cops were seen as bumbling fools but not hated like they are now.

Should have won picture of the yearš¤£
My wife knows the house Cletus lived in. Very well. It was her daycare while her mother was working at Emory Hospital. I also met Jerry Reed once and sat across from him on his tour bus. He was trying to noodle out a picking run on his guitar, and was a little distracted at the time.
