Been there, done that. One time I opened up my grandma’s ancient GE fridge and there was a pig’s head looking back at me. Next morning we had pig brains. Lots of ketchup.

Spotted Dick was the first thing that came to my mind when I read the title of the article, and it ended up being the first picture in the thread. Vienna sausages is another one, because I could never see myself eating wieners from a can.
How odd, as I just had a can of Vienna sausages myself last night while watching TV. Way back in the 1960's they were called Vī-enna sausages by the old timers. When the Covid-19 lockdown started, my wife ordered a case of Vienna sausages from Costco. That was really strange because up until then she wouldn't let me eat anything with "chemicals" in it. I continue to munch on them every day or two. Oh, she still draws a line with "Potted Meat" from a can, but I also love that and Spam too.

Best part was trading and creating.Helmet stew. With a lot of tabasco. Peaches and pound cake.
A meal fit for a king.

A few years ago, I bought a pack of 100 P-38s. Gave them to lots of friends and coworkers, and still have a couple dozen, though I don’t carry one on my keyring due to holes in pockets and pokes in the leg.
The P-38 is one of the all-time great machines.

The LRP’s were better if you could get some hot water.

Spotted Dick is a common dessert pudding in the UK. It’s actually pretty good. Never had the canned version.

Years ago I was in a Save-a-Lot supermarket and I saw a can of Hi-Power pork and beans. Of course I had to buy a few cans.

We usually seal them in the Seal-A-Meal and freeze them. I’m only going to fry them up in BUTTER anyway, along with steaks, or use them in a quiche or casserole.

This was before the availability of so many packaging options.... but I remember them being stored in the pantry, dried out mushrooms in mason jars.

I like Wisconsin Black Bear. Well fed. Also, lean meat. I marinate it, then grill it, but not too much! Medium Rare or it goes straight to shoe leather!
Sometimes I make ‘Pepper Bear’ which is just Pepper Steak with bear. ;)
We made some of the last bear Beau got into hamburger. I made a batch of Sloppy Joes for one of Beau’s Buddy Hunts - it still had some buckshot in it, but they ate it all, LOL!
I put a sign on the next Crock Pot I made for them, ‘Buckshot Free...THIS Time!’ :)
