Epic vs Apple: what we learnt from the trial that could change the iPhone
Financial Times ^ | May 25, 2021 | Patrick McGee, Reuters

Rodelli, who works for the investment research firm CFRA, put the chances at 55 per cent in Epic's favour. Apple, he said, had lost credibility by pleading ignorance on key questions, while Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers appeared to be more interested in present-day business facts than older legal precedents -- a plus for Epic, which has conceded its case lies on the "frontiers" of antitrust theory...
Amit Daryanani, Evercore ISI -- If Epic can convince the court that Apple devices are a singular market unto themselves, it would likely carry the day. We think this is relatively unlikely.
..."Bornstein conducted the best adverse witness examination since Daniel Kaffee grilled Colonel Jessup in A Few Good Men," Rodelli said. "Is it really believable that they don't have a good sense of what the profits are? That may have impacted Apple's credibility with the court." Cook also got a grilling from Gonzalez Rogers, notably over why Apple cut its 30 per cent commission to 15 per cent last year for some types of purchases for some types of apps, after Epic launched its suit.

I wonder if the trial got to the *core* of the matter? /rimshot
I'm sure that, however it goes, there will be an a-peel. /rimshot

Maybe the worm has turned for Apple?

Maybe Apple is in a peck of trouble?

I’d say Apple should allow other sales options, but that only Apple-certified/reviewed apps be allowed on iPhones.

That might mean Apple charges all paid apps a 5-8% fee instead of 30%. Then Apple could keep their walled garden just as secure as it is now.

Why post an article that is behind a pay wall? Trying to encourage the FR tradition of commenting without reading?

I just did.

Hmm, it didn’t do that for me, maybe because I arrived there from Google?

When I suspect there will be a problem like that, as I do with the NY Slimes, I’ll have my fingers ready on the ctrl-A, to highlight the text before the pop-up.

The related articles on the page did give me the wall, btw.

He seen me comin', sneaked up from behind, switched off my vision and left me stone blind, could not see to blast him, here's the ending of my tale, he went with number three and I cry to no avail, and that's why, why I've got these Robot Blues, down in my heart compartment, down in my old magnetic sole shoes. -- Incredible String Band, "Robot Blues"

I'm not sure about those culinary pot shots; but this is one thing for sure (and it is a direct quote):

"Cook got a grilling..."

Aside from that, there were several ingredients missing from that article. It had more holes than swiss cheese.

My sentiments exactly. Apple is a horrible, no good company....that is still better than Google/Alphabet by a LONG shot.

Apple’s primary business model is still providing products and services to consumer. Google’s primary business is mining consumer data and selling those analytics to biz users all at the expense of the privacy of the user.
