I think he used to be an outspoken Christian, IIRC.

He played a sleazy casting couch Hollywood type in Blake Edwards’ 1968 comedy The Party.
He gave a good performance in the role (and I didn’t even recognize him) but the character was a real jerk.
He played news writer Murray Slaughter on the Mary Tyler Moore Show; his desk was right next to hers.
