Newt Gingrich calls for killing anyone behind Colonial Pipeline ransomware attack
The Washington Times ^ | Tuesday, May 11, 2021 | Andrew Blake

Posted on 06/05/2021 5:40:35 PM PDT by Texas Fossil

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich called the cyberattack suffered by the Colonial Pipeline Company “an act of war” and said the U.S. should respond by killing whoever was responsible for it.

“We ought to pass a law immediately that makes this kind of hacking subject to a death penalty, and the law should include a provision that the president, through a judicial process, should be able to order the killing of anybody overseas who’s doing this,” Mr. Gingrich, a Republican, said Monday on Fox News while speaking about the ransomware attack that recently disrupted the Colonial Pipeline system.

Mr. Gingrich, 77, who presided over the House during the Clinton administration, suggested others will feel similarly if the attack on Colonial leads to lingering disruptions.

Mr. Gingrich said. “It’s an act of war against the United States to do stuff like this,” he added. “We need to react to it as an act of war, and the American people are going to look at their representatives and their senators and they’re going it say, ‘If you don’t fix this, your successor will. Because I’m not going to put up with it, and I’m going to put up with you if you don’t fix it.’”

I found this video on "before it is news". So I searched for it elsewhere and had difficulty finding one that was unedited or still working. The Fox news site version did not play. The Washington Times did not provide the link for the video and several others had portions of the audio clipped.

The Washington Times is a well respected newspaper. I am asking myself why they did not use the video. And why it was not already posted here on FR.

Newt Gingrich: Pipeline cyber attackers should be 'subject to death penalty (and called it an act-of-war)

The question this makes me ask: If the foreign cyber attack on our pipeline is called an "Act of War", why was the attack on the USA on November 3-4, 2020 (which I have called Pearl Harbor II) not also an Act Of War.

Okay, and who will determine the responsible parties? The intelligence agencies. Here’s a neato idea, how about some justice for Ashli Babbitt first. That should be a lot easier to prove. On the pipeline, it will be Trump and the Rooskies!!

What if the “hacker” is actually an agent of the NSA testing code (which accidentally went live)?

How about a kid in their basement in Vladivostok?

What about a disgruntled ex-employee who didn’t “hack” at all but had an employee friend input the code directly into the machine?

There are just too many unknowns for Newt to mouth off on this stuff...

“Newt Gingrich calls for killing anyone behind Colonial Pipeline ransomware attack”

ditto ... ANY malicious hacking attack that deliberately crashes essential national services (like the recent nuking of 20% of our beef production)should automatically be considered acts of war, and the perpetrators AND their associates should be hunted down to the ends of the earth, slaughtered in a gruesome fashion and the remains publicly displayed in such a fashion that no mistake can be made as to the cause AND the message being sent ... pretty much like nailing the hides of coyotes to fences to “warn off” the rest of the pack ...

without such action, the number and scope of these attacks will only increase ...

Maybe it’s not being widely reported because it’s an embarrassingly stupid thing to say for the Newt.

Law schmaw. If there were a Man at the helm people wouldn’t screw around like this. Biden is neither a Man or the President. Tge likely STATE actors that did the attack aren’t afraid od a stuffed suit and a set of false teeth.

Is it? If the attack on the pipeline was done by a nation, not hackers, would you call it stupid?

Yes, when I heard Newt make that statement, I was surprised because I assumed the attack was not an attack by another nation.

I do not feel that way about November 3-4, 2020.
