Manchin to vote against election overhaul bill

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) said he will vote against a sweeping election reform overhaul bill, dubbed the For The People Act, putting the fate of the legislation in jeopardy in the evenly split Senate.

In an op-ed published early Sunday morning in the Charleston Gazette-Mail, Manchin, one of the Democratic caucus's most conservative members, zeroed in on the partisan nature of the legislation, which has not attracted any Republican support.

"I believe that partisan voting legislation will destroy the already weakening blinds of our democracy, and for that reason, I will vote against the For The People Act," Manchin wrote.

"The truth, I would argue, is that voting and election reform that is done in a partisan manner will all but ensure partisan divisions continue to deepen," he added.

Manchin also said he "will not vote to weaken or eliminate the filibuster," which a number of leading Democrats have suggested in order to pass election reform.

He said he will "seek bipartisan compromise no matter how difficult and to develop the political bonds that end divisions and help unite the country we love."

The House in March passed The For The People Act in a 220 to 210 vote. No House Republicans supported the measure, and one Democrat voted against the legislation.

The bill would require states to offer mail-in ballots, a minimum of 15 days of early voting and online and same-day voter registration. Additionally, it calls for the creation of independent commissions to draw congressional districts in an effort to put an end to partisan gerrymandering.

It's always easy to know what a bill is actually about. Simply reverse the stated title of the bill. Election reform -> Election status quo For the people Act -> Against the People Act

If honesty in labeling was required, it would be named “For the Elites to Rig Elections Act.”

Hack represents a conservative state and is a libturd always available if the chips are down, but performing a Kabuki dance for the rubes back home until his vote is essential.

“That cancels out Murkowski.”

If he holds fast on this (and the filibuster), Manchin and Murkowski might just as well switch parties.

Even with all of his political faults, he’s more of a Republican than she will ever be.

Hope he stands strong and doesn’t capitulate - I’m sure he is under tremendous pressure from the Democrats - receiving all kinds of promises if he votes in favor - and threats of destruction if he doesn’t.

I’ll never forget how Justice Roberts changed his mind at the last minute on Obamacare - after he’d come out publicly against it.

So what we are looking at is a system in which people can still break with the partisans if they are determined enough. Than you Senator Manchin!

I will vote against the For The People Act," Manchin wrote....will not vote to weaken or eliminate the filibuster,"

Talk is cheap.

What action will follow?

Stay tuned. He knows he will be primaried if he votes with the Democrats. Wonder what the Dems are promising him if he votes with them and loses his office.

Murkowski needs to go. She’s absolutely worthless to the conservative side of the house.

This important story is about the attempt to federalize and legalize election fraud in every upcoming election.

That was the NUMBER ONE priority of the Rats.

As I and others predicted, it would crater with Manchin and Sinema the thorn in Schumer’s side.

To all those who insisted this was happening, now join the American fight, pray with us if you won’t even pick up the phone.

To the others, please do call Sen. Manchins office and let him know what you think about election integrity. That’s helpful.

IDK. I expect her to though. She’s probably conferring with Romney and Collins to see which one should vote for the RATS forever monstrosity.

If he were up again in 2022, I’d be thinking he’d be a prime candidate to do a Jumpin Jim. Unlike the 2018 cycle, Manchin would be DOA in W. Virginia as a Democrat in 2022 IMO.
