Have played blues and other music since
the 80s at WMWM Salem MA (Bob Nelson),
very familiar with the label.I have the book Bitten by the Blues (Iglauer) and
hope to read it soon.
His mentor Bob Koester of Delmark
passed on recently.New releases by
Selwyn Birchwood, Kingfish Ingram etc
I still haven’t seen Kingfish Ingram. He was supposed to tour through with Buddy Guy, and I think another show was also scheduled in my area. Both were cancelled last year because of Covid.
HI, Bob, was hoping to see you on here. Alligator, yeah, it’s very important. And yes, I dealt with them a lot at Johnny D’s, but there was more. Not sure what I should have thought, when and where. I think my favorite thing was them recording Lonnie Mack, sort of rescuing him from obscurity. Because he was so multi talented. I loved him. Interesting that they somehow lured Marcia Ball away from Rounder, which was weird, because it was a sideways move. We had other issues with them after the Evil Blue Place in Harvard Square opened, and I remember a woman there I had serious issues with but can’t remember her name. It was over ticket buys. Other labels of comparable stature would do ticket buys when one of their new discoveries would come to town, but they refused to. All in all, though, I’m glad they exist and am so happy for their success for so long.
And as for the future - the KINGFISH guy is the one!!! What a happy discovery. And I saw an incredible one on one of Dale Watson’s things - Tammi Savoy. She is so beautiful, elegant, and all the things that would make us happy to have them in our lives again.
