The bipartisan infrastructure agreement reached last week will get rid of all of the country's lead pines and service lines, according to a new White House memo, but it's not clear how long it will take.
The memo, from National Economic Council Director Brian Deese and senior adviser Anita Dunn, says the bipartisan framework "will replace 100 percent of the nation's lead pipes and service lines."
White House press secretary Jen Psaki also told reporters on Monday that "it will put Americans to work replacing 100 percent of our nation's lead water pipes" but wouldn't give a time period when asked how long it would take.
"The details are very important here. It needs to all be written into the final legislation of the bill, but the president is clearly eager to get that done as quickly as possible," she said when asked about timing.
Exposing children to lead can damage their brains and nervous systems.
Overall, the package will put $55 billion toward "water infrastructure," which will include replacing lead service lines.
This figure and others were initially announced last week as part of the $579 billion in new spending for infrastructure.

Yeah, right. Like there’s any left. We’ve only been replacing them for fifty years.
Right?
How is it that any that are known about haven’t already been replaced?
These people have no idea how incredibly stupid they are.
The same old leftist belief that merely paying someone to do something, no matter what that thing is, somehow boosts the economy. What they fail to understand is that the economy only grows when something of economic value is performed in exchange for money. They might as well just pay people to dig holes and then fill them again, for all the good their lead pipe replacement make-work project will do.
The most egregious example of this false belief is the left’s touting of “green jobs.” Just more paying people to do something that didn’t need doing and that delivers no actual value.
They will define lead pipe to include sweated fitting copper pipe.
I’m from the government and I’m here to help…
It's like the asbestos that surrounded heating pipes....Just leave stuff alone. Stop the panic crap. If anything...just add a filter. Don't even think of replacement. It's stupid.
Every lead pipe! Yup, I got a bridge to sell you. Impossible, not enough money that can be borrowed to do just that. Might as well build a pyramid or two by hand while we are at it.
Pipes?!
Isn’t it the solder?
Psaki, that moron, doesn’t even know how to describe the problem correctly.
And it’s not the pipes. It’s the solder.
Then again, Deep State likely doesn’t give a crap.
****The same old leftist belief that merely paying someone to do something, no matter what that thing is, somehow boosts the economy.****
The rank and file leftists may believe that.
These political hacks use plans like this to line their pockets, making it even worse than what you describe.
They are a parasitic group of beings that are ramping up the grift to set up the “Great Reset” so they can “Build Back Better”, by taking our hard earned money and using it against us to take total control of all aspects of our lives.
Could you make ammo from all that scrapped lead?

Perhaps some of the ancient mains in big cities like NY have lead sections. I’m not sure but not water supply pipes in homes.
Sounds like another kickback to the pipe and steamfitters unions.

I used to live in Lansing, MI, and 12,000 homes there had lead service lines from the main to the house water meter.
Lansing started a program to replace these lead service lines in 2004, and completed the project in 2016.
No, it’s not just the solder on copper pipes inside the home, it is also lead service lines from the main to the house.
There are still lead in old cities-democratic shitholes. Thing about lead is once it gets coated with calcium deposits it doesn’t leach and is pretty safe. Flint went cheap and didn’t buffer the water so the pipes lost this coating because of the change in ph.
