You wait — the dems will insist that we pay for replacements of these buildings.

There was a brand new Condo / Hotel Building built on the Vegas Strip that was so badly built it was never allowed to be occupied.

It had to be dismantled piece by piece before it collapsed on its own.

“Building collapse horrifies residents of Miami Beach condominium with ‘unsafe structure’ warning (built in 1971)”

well, i guess they better get busy and assess themselves gigantic assessments to fix the problem, then

A good concrete finisher could patch that right up. Slap a coat of paint on it and it should look fine. They didn’t even care enough to cover up the problems.

Ultimate strength design was allowed, but not required until 1977. Catastrophic collapse is why working stress design was removed from the code.

Well, time to evacuate. That’s all I can say.

John D. McDonald wrote a novel about a similar building and a hurricane in Tampa.

A lot of investors in Miami condos are about to lose their shirts.

Insurance won’t pay for the collapse, I bet, saying it’s a maintenance issue. Sorta like they do for termite damage. Slow, progressive, degradation that culminates in the final event.

My well-maintained 70 year old ranch house (single story, wood frame, stick built) looks pretty good right now.

Miami-Dade County.

Quelle suprise.

If we had an FBI worthy of their badges, they’ve cleaned up that cesspool of public corruption years ago.
