PARIS—Five public research institutions in France have imposed a 3-month moratorium on the study of prions—a class of misfolding, infectious proteins that cause fatal brain diseases—after a retired lab worker who handled prions in the past was diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), the most common prion disease in humans. An investigation is underway to find out whether the patient, who worked at a lab run by the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE), contracted the disease on the job.
2019, an INRAE lab worker named Émilie Jaumain died at age 33, 10 years after pricking her thumb during an experiment with prion-infected mice. Her family is now suing INRAE for manslaughter and endangering life; her illness had already led to tightened safety measures at French prion labs.
Jaumain’s family has filed both criminal charges and an administrative suit against INRAE, alleging a range of problems at Jaumain’s lab. She had not been trained in handling dangerous prions or responding to accidents and did not wear both metal mesh and surgical gloves, as she was supposed to, says Julien Bensimhon, the family’s lawyer. The thumb should have been soaked in a bleach solution immediately, which did not happen,

And no, your mask will not stop this one either.
What a horrid way to go............................
Just don’t eat the brains. No mask needed.
Those French people with their weird raw foods.
Friends just returned from Paris.....
....said you must order a hamburger well done or it will arrive raw.
Not only will the mask not stop it, the needle may inject it
Had a friend in the UK die from it. He went down quick. Hard to watch.
What the bleeping bleep?!
Astra Zeneca R&D chief died from it.
Whatever could have triggered his prion disease?

He had worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre but resigned for not disclosing payments from Industry.
I think all vaccines can do this
Danny...try to read the excerpt!
Allow me to help you. Here is the fourth sentence...”Émilie Jaumain died at age 33, 10 years after pricking her thumb during an experiment with prion-infected mice.”
Very bad way to die
Can also be transmitted by tainted blood transfusions from those infected with this protein that can take years to manifest
Military who served in England presumed to be at risk from infected beef supply and not allowed to donate blood

I read it.
Fine! Don’t eat the brains and don’t prick your finger.
Happy now?
Prions are not even airborne. She sliced through double gloves cleaning forceps. Think about working with COVID-19 in the lab.
Rule #1 - don’t bring in your Starbucks and sit it next to the mad cow experiment.

In the 1970s I worked in this building:
https://architecture.uchicago.edu/locations/cummings_life_science_center/
IIRC it was considered a level 3 facility, Atlanta was a level 4 and had burners that heated ALL the discharged air.
The stacks on the side of the building are exhaust air.
All of the air in the building comes in and goes straight out above the roof.
From the Cummings lab:
“Another laboratory-acquired infection may have occurred in a University of Chicago building where 2 years ago a researcher contracted plague and later died. Late last month, a researcher who worked in the same general lab area was hospitalized with a skin infection caused by a common bacterium being studied in her lab.”
