I'm hopelessly stuck in Kabul with my wife and child.
Like myself, hundreds of other journalists are also stuck here.
I have an 11—months old daughter.
Please pray for her safety.

Get to the airport, use any cash you have to get there.
"If God wills" (Inshalla). Now that is funny.
Mustafa can stay in the hell of Dar al-Islam where he belongs.
What you say is spot-on. I was in Kabul for 6 years as a civilian. For the overpaid UN personnel and other international contractors it’s party time and get lots of money. Things settled down for a few days after a guy from Australia was killed in his car. I had met him several times. Then it was revealed he was sleeping with an Afghan commander’s wife, and was told to leave the country and never come back. He came back. Since there was a clear cause, party time resumed.

In our lifetime we witnessed the demise of a major world power. We read the morning news paper and it was gone, over night.
You're right.
Some one who was behind the door the day brains were passed out.
Or, when waiting in line, thought they said “trains” and requested a big, slow one.
To be at the mercy of 8th Century pig fornicating moslems isn’t fun.
Prayers up for all who are in harm’s way there.
Let me phrase it this way.
Who in their right mind would bring their wife to Afghanistan with them?
Or their wife and child?
Or get their wife pregnant while in Afghanistan?
Why didn't he learn to code when he had the chance?
Every enlisted guy I met who served there agreed. Every company grade officer I’ve known there agreed. I was an O-5, and many of my fellow field grade officers agreed. But generals like to hear what they LIKE to hear, and so does the State Department.
The advice I got when a young LT was good then and now: “Unless you’ve been in the back shops at midnight, and talked to junior enlisted and and SAW what they were dealing with, YOU DON’T KNOW SQUAT!” Sure wish the Colonels and Generals had learned that lesson!
They listened to what they WANTED to be the truth. And passed on their fantasies!
What happened to the wife?
I was just thinking of that picture...
Inexcusable. He should have seen this coming.
Exactly. They couldn’t give less of a damn about us. In fact, to the extent they do care, it would be to wish us ill. OK. I return the favor. Have at them Taliban.
I don’t know this journalist or anything about him but he said he has a wife and child. My feeling is that he probably married an Afghan woman and had a child with her and that’s why he has them there.
For a while I lived on the top floor of a government building. One evening I had dinner with a minister and his guest, seated on the floor, Afghan-style, eating without utensils, using naun to grab bits of food out of common bowls. The guest asked me how many wives I had. After I replied “One.” he said “If you don’t have 3 or 4 you should just jump off the top of the building.”
I’d say there was a better than 50% chance she was “replaced.”
The acronyms and more in depth please
