This is actually very serious. It is a given that there is violent crime on the west side and much of the south side. Michigan Avenue and State Street are the upscale heart of the city, and crime didn’t historically happen there much (except for a string of “smash and grabs” a few years ago).
If this expands and continues it will definitely hurt Chicago’ business and tourism climate.

Those residents who the means to do so—mostly downtown/near North, but ultimately across the city—have been fleeing since May of last year. The BLM riots started it, the unhindered acts of the Red Line Raiders have only been gasoline on the fire.
