"In his neatly handwritten letter" Sure, he may be a murdering terrorist, who hates America and sides with the Taliban, but at least he has good penmanship!
Seriously though, it struck me as odd that the writer inserted that little tidbit into the article.

BBC World Service radio had “expert” from Kings College, London today, who said islamists had lost in last five years, so were demoralised as they and their followers saw them as losers.
he then said what has happened in Afghanistan has emboldened them, because they & their followers feel like winners again, and ISIS is now actively encouraging wannabe jihadis worldwide to attack the West.
the “expert” did not thank PRESIDENT TRUMP for the first; and did not blame PRESIDENT BIDEN for the second.
