There was an alien-invasion TV show called "V" about ten years ago. There is an eerie comparison between the way the aliens operate and the way the left operates.

I have the series (which only lasted two seasons) on DVD, and in the episode I was watching last night, the aliens were planning on using a supposed miracle vaccine to actually eliminate large numbers of humans.
