As I wrote to someone else here, he might not have thought that much of it because working standards in restaurants and food factories are often not all that high.
I worked in a couple, and workers did all sorts of things they shouldn’t, as if they weren’t even handling food. And that includes supervisors. Some were black, but a great many (including the supervisors) were white.
In my view, it’s a class thing.
I’ve seen low-income men especially do things like eat watermelon chunks off the ground. That wasn’t in a work place, but if that’s the standard for yourself, what will it be for other people when you’re on what can feel like a monotonous job and are pressed for time, and you also aren’t the most highly skilled individual?
As I also said, I’ve come to see this as one fruit of the godlessness of our culture.
