You’re right - it was more ‘food for thought’ - different perspectives on the destructive insanity of ‘victim groups’ as political force.
That said, you’re right about the Japanese... but 60 years ago blacks had a marriage rate identical to whites, very few ‘out of wedlock’ births and strong communities. They owned bushiness and kept their neighborhoods together under horrible conditions - forming a culture that had survived slavery. Democrats tossed that (with urban renewal, faithless homes, and toxic incentives) creating what we have today - a loyal and dependent victim group. The same tactics used to destroy the black community could have destroyed working class white communities IF they had offered more ‘dependent money’ at the beginning of the Great Society.
So could this be done to a vibrant socially cohesive Japanese US community? With the proper toxic incentives it’s possible.
Actually, I was surprised, but a good movie for helping understand the former solid black neighborhoods of 60 years back is the movie The Gospel According to Andre. That's Andre Leon Talley of Vogue magazine. The movie is quite good as long as you can tolerate brief interludes with Whoopi Goldberg and a few others. Here's the YouTube trailer keyed up to the point when he describes his morally strong grandmother and his neighborhood as a kid. |
