While I don’t know the specifics for certain, I expect and would bet money your brother is an economic moron. The football program almost certainly brings in more than it costs.
Washington State is part of the Bama folklore. The fight song has the line “...remember the Rose Bowl we’re winning...” in reference to Bama’s first bowl game in 1926 against the Huskies. Affectionately referred to as “the game that changed the entire south”.
