The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a warning that a salmonella outbreak believed to be linked to onions imported from Chihuahua, Mexico, has spread to 37 states — sickening over 650 people.
The CDC directed businesses on Wednesday evening to stop selling fresh whole red, white, or yellow onions that were imported from Chihuahua and distributed by ProSource Inc.
It also suggested businesses clean any surfaces that may have touched such onions.
The agency urged Americans to throw away any whole red, white, or yellow onions that don’t have a sticker or packaging.

Hopefully, this doesn’t include local farms selling their own onions as they would not have packaging.
Americans should be paying 5X more for fruits and vegetables, given the regulatory oversight and risks involved.

I have 2 reds I bought a month ago. I’ll toss ‘em. As for yellow or white? Don’t use them. It’s Vidalia or nothing. And I’m pretty certain they come from Georgia.
When you gotta go, you gotta go. Others have to watch where they step or they will get their foot cut. Kinda like walking in places inhabited by the homeless.
Shouldn’t this warning be coming from the FDA.
The CDC should focus of ebola, anthrax and other germ warfare threats.
I think we’re good. We use Vidalia onions right from Bland Farms in GA; in a pinch, Peruvian Sweets get the job done - similar taste, texture, and pungency.
