A grandmother says she was kicked out of a Georgia hotel by police in the middle of the night after she left a bad review online, forcing her and her six year-old granddaughter to walk to an nearby hotel in their pajamas.
Susan Leger, 63, was on the first of her three-night stay at the Baymont Inn & Suites in the mountain town of Helen, Georgia in September when she got a call from the hotel manager telling her she had to leave.
It came shortly after booking site Hotels.com asked her to leave a review post-check-in. Leger did, branding the property 'run down'. She also complained that her room's toilet did not flush properly and that the pool was closed.
Police then showed up to remove her and her 6-year-old grandchild, writing in a report that management wanted her out because she 'had given the hotel a bad review.'

It has become common for business to threaten, threaten law suits and take revenge on people that leave bad reviews.

Hotels shouldn't accept pedestrian customers in the first place.

It’s private property. Management can exercise property rights on behalf of their employer. So, yes, they can kick people out and have the police issue a no trespassing citation against them.
She should update her review with her experience. :)

I’d say she gave it a higher rating than it deserved.
I would agree....bits and pieces to the story left out.
But looking over Google reviews...most people who stayed in the past year are giving it less-than-happy reviews. If I’d been this lady and read the reviews....I wouldn’t have stayed at the place.
Don’t think it was that stupid. 3 out of 5 ain’t that bad. Amagansett Press and Jeff Gray may have to pay these folks a visit.
Helen used to be a nice place to visit. It is now universally run-down and with little to offer. Just go someplace else.
One must ask what activities occurred between those two events.

As an aside, Helen Georgia is a very cool town. Its basically modeled after an Alpine village right in the middle of the Georgia mountains.
I had pre-paid for an Ely motel room when my wife and I were vacationing in Nevada. The clerk at the front desk was all nice, and we went to our room to rest up. About 30 minutes later the clerk called me on the room phone and asked when I was going to pay for the room. I explained to him that it was pre-paid. He blew a gasket and said there’s no such thing (this was a national chain). I politely told him that yes, I’d already paid for the room and he threatened to call the cops and have me thrown out.
I went down to the front desk to confront the guy and was met by his wife, who apologized to me. She said everything’s fine. Her husband has dementia and she’d asked him to watch the desk while she took care of something else. He was sitting in a chair looking very confused. I was tempted to see if she’d reverse my charges and let us stay gratis for the trouble, but she was so apologetic I thought “forget it”.
We were only staying one night, so that was the end of it.
I suspect there is more to the story.
How do you arrive at such arbitrary criteria?
The room was pre-paid as the article indicates at least a partial refund.

Why would the police even respond to the scene if this is all he told the dispatcher.
