- Susan Leger and her granddaughter had to walk in their pajamas to a new hotel
- They were kicked out of the Baymont Inn in Helen, Georgia for leaving a bad review on booking site Hotels.com after checking in
- Leger said in her write-up that the hotel was run-down, and that its toilet didn't flush properly
- Manager Danny Vyas told a 911 dispatcher that he wanted her out because, 'I know that you didn't like the room and you have reviewed us'
- The booking website only refunded Leger after questions from reporters
A grandmother says she was kicked out of a Georgia hotel by police in the middle of the night after she left a bad review online, forcing her and her six year-old granddaughter to walk to an nearby hotel in their pajamas.
Susan Leger, 63, was on the first of her three-night stay at the Baymont Inn & Suites in the mountain town of Helen, Georgia in September when she got a call from the hotel manager telling her she had to leave.
It came shortly after booking site Hotels.com asked her to leave a review post-check-in. Leger did, branding the property 'run down'. She also complained that her room's toilet did not flush properly and that the pool was closed.
Police then showed up to remove her and her 6-year-old grandchild, writing in a report that management wanted her out because she 'had given the hotel a bad review.'

Management can exercise property rights on behalf of their employer. So, yes, they can kick people out and have the police issue a no trespassing citation against them.
If I've already paid and the payment was accepted, I'm not leaving, unless it is on my terms.

That sounds awful high for a budget friendly hotel in Helen, Georgia.

I would sue. Then buy the hotel and fire the guy.
Pathetic.

Apparently in the 21st Century, the customer is always wrong. This event fits right into the current narrative of generally beating-down the populace for any non-compliance or complaint against our government/corporatist overlords. The message is the sheep are to shut the bleep up.

How do you arrive at such arbitrary criteria? Quite easily.

I’m sure there is a lot missing from the story. "...forcing her and her six year-old granddaughter to walk to an nearby hotel in their pajamas."
Didn't they have regular clothing? The story sounds fishy.

The review has since been revised to make it zero out of five. The manager of that hotel has never heard of the Barbara Streisand Effect.

I suppose you could start with the article and video.
It is a long-standing custom that Freepers post after a headline and reading the excerpt. Masny of us go to FR because we don't want to wade throw a long article and a video too.
That said, the excerpts from the 911 call included claims that the "guests" had not yet paid for the room (I don't know if they gave a credit card as security) and that the hotel was going to refund their money.

Of course, if they hadn’t paid, how could there be a refund? The hotel sounds squirrely. They don’t look good in this.

You’d think that as you’ve already paid - you’re owed the service. Unless they’ve been disorderly or have broken some law that you’d have the right to stay.
I get that it’s private property but there’s also a legal transaction here. I’d have thought an immediate refund would have at least been required by the police (?) - otherwise it is, effectively, theft.

Helen cops and local judges protect the businesses of Helen from the tourists. The fines there are very high. I hate the place.

I’d have stayed in my paid for room, and allowed them to arrest me. That would have made for a better case.

It has degenerated enormously since the 1980s. There used to be artisans running all of those stores, which were stocked with locally made artifacts. Only one wood shop, glass blower, and a couple of candy kitchens remain. The rest sell Chinese junk.

They probably did her a favor by throwing her out. And she did not know it. They probably had rats as big as house cats.
