Stephen King is a poster child for your definition of “bran rot” in an author ...

You think that’s bad watch “At Long Last Love”, a musical from 1975 with Burt Reynolds in it.

“Tommy” based on The Who rock opera. Not only the plot and casting were bad, but they also ruined the music.

They are not actual Puerto Ricans. They moved here to the US.

The starlet Maria also was unattractive with a lower jaw horse face.

She looks like AOC's kid sister.

In addition, much of the early passion is gone—it is just a money making enterprise.

One sign of burnout is contempt for your audience. When you get too cynical, it's time to quit.

You two are referring to the "penis breath" remark, right?

(Full disclosure: I've never seen the movie, but have read numerous movie reviews of it. Also: In our modern culture, even someone who has never set foot in a cinema will unavoidably "soak up" some of this culture.)

My take is that it was not intended as a covert reference to fellatio. Rather, I think most kids would simply think that it was a "gross" thing to say - and they would say it for pure "shock effect," without any regard for any possible allusion.

But I agree that it is vulgar and does skirt the line.

Regards,

Political propaganda for the folks who run Hollywood like Spielberg trumps profit

Remember all the anti war dreck during the Bush presidency

And all the bash Trump films

Or films picking on Palin

They could care less if they make money

And they have molded every generation since boomers like this....

It works

It is disgusting and at the time my kids did not say these things.

“My take is that it was not intended as a covert reference to fellatio.”

Well, then with all due respect, you’re very naive. Even as a 12-year-old, I knew it was intended as the slightly more creative equivalent of “c—k sucker.” If someone called you “garlic breath” or “cigarette breath” or “peanut butter breath,” it would refer to something that had been in your mouth.

When art tries to get political (usually lefties do this) it gets soul-crushing and boring in a hurry.

That is because true art is based on inspiration—and that comes from places where there are no politics.

Audiences (viewers, readers) can sense the fakery in a hurry even if they can’t verbalize it.

I actually enjoyed it and didn’t see anything “woke” about it. Anybodys was always a gender-confused character, and the new script actually improved the flow of the story. The problem is nobody is up for going to filmed musicals in general anymore, and WSS doesn’t really have cultural cachet with anyone under 60. A cast of unknowns, as talented as they are,
didn’t help either.

Yeah there is nothing “Woke” about this film. It’s terrific and much better than the flatly directed 1961 version.

>> The original West Side Story had actors with darkened faces to represent the Puerto Ricans. This one actually has real Puerto Ricans. That's not "woke." That's simply a more accurate presentation of the story. <<

In the original Broadway production of West Side Story, the character of "Anybodys" is a young tomboy from the neighborhood who desperately wants to be part of the Jets gang. The 1961 film stayed completely faithful to this: Susan Oakes's "Anybodys" in the film was a 1950s-era tomboy: short hair and a spiky attitude.

In the new 'West Side Story', the character of "Anybodys" is reimagined as "openly transgender", both via dialogue heard in the film and the performer cast in the role: "nonbinary" Broadway actor Iris Menas.

Yeah, "Transgendered character" just TOTALLY fits the mid 1950s setting and isn't pandering to 21st century SJWs... right?
