Acording to my dad, Patton’s greatness was largely a media invention.

An uncle of mine was a motorcycle messenger of Patton. He did not think Patton’s greatness was a media creation.

Of course, Patton had rivals in the military at the time. Don’t mistake jealousy in past time with the judgement of history.

With all due respect, your dad was wrong.

He was good, although my dad who served under him wasn’t a big fan. My dad preferred General Patch who replaced him in 7th Army. Patton was a great tactical general, a fighter. But not a strategist.

My uncle served as a motorcycle messenger for Patton in very hot situations. Loved him and believed he was murdered for political reasons, to prevent him from a political career.
