I don’t see a real problem with the lady asking them to turn down their noise. Maybe she should have waited till midnight, but she was very polite.
Walking through somebody’s door uninvited is not polite.
I think the problem was more that she walked inside the house without being invited in. I would not have a problem with her asking, but...having her appear there must have been unsettling.
I’m with you. And Ten p.m. is the latest loud music is acceptable on any night — let alone what is meant to be the most serene evening of the year.
“...but she was very polite...”
Trespassing is not “polite”.
We have noise ordinances where I live. No loud noise after 11pm and before 10am. These people probably didn’t hear the polite knock at the door. Some people don’t understand limits or how to know when something becomes too much. One time some guy across the street was blowing off fireworks, mortars and the like in the wee hours of the morning. He just kept going at it. It was a birthday party, not 4th of July when people are more tolerant of it. The police finally showed up and he ended up getting a $300 ticket. He was pissed at the neighbors because somebody called the police (wasn’t us). What an idiot.
Maybe entering someone else’s house without their permission is too much for some people who consider it a problem
She trespassed. She was in the house without permission. That’s what seemed to really piss them off, not the noise complaint.

I live in a subdivision-sized city with its own police force. I used to regularly call the police because of ridiculously loud music from the house behind mine. His music was so loud I could scarcely hear my TV. I must have called them out at least half a dozen times before he eventually moved away or died. However, I let loud music and such slide if it is a one-time rare event, like a graduation party, birthday party, etc. This Christmas party probably would not have bothered me.
I did call the police one year on Christmas night. The house next door was occupied by a black family of section 8 types. The boyfriend of one of the slutty daughters was playing the most vile sexually explicit hip-hop "music" I have ever heard on his car stereo while the daughters appeared to be humping or twerking the automobile. This for me was not appropriate for Christmas, so the cops had to shut it down.
