Horrible. Sounds like everything was fine and then...
2nd circling approach in IMC fatal accident at this airport in the last couple of months. Both aircraft crashed into populated areas. Might be some new restrictions coming to Gillespie Field.
What in the world could have happened? Mid-air collision? Engine explosion tore the whole tail off?
Maybe a bird strike?
In before the Hillary Clinton connection speculation.
My guess..catastrophic loss of engine (fell off) or other critical airframe part...tail section. Sudden and complete loss of control.
A bird strike on both sides at the same time I suppose, at low altitude and airspeed.
Or maybe something else I don't even want to think about...
Changed his mind on the runway he was cleared to land on and during the turn, he stalled.
Wait a second. The last normal thing he said was to ask for the runway lights to be turned up; he was told they were already at 100%.
Could he have been at a much lower altitude than he realized, under low-ceiling conditions?
Yes. Took his eyes off his airspeed indicator?
Looks like the plane inverted. I’m not a pilot
He knew he had no chance
Looks like something hit the plane. I don’t know.
I have noticed that many of the airplane crashes in that area involve an amateur pilot who is also a medical doctor.
Definitely an
“Oh Shite!”
Moment.
RIP
Too low and hit a power line after cancelling their IFR clearance and requesting VFR / change of runway from where originally cleared. That was when they said “Oh, Snap, oh snap...”
Sad, but Pilot Error...
Christmas gift drone strike ?
you can hear a thump @ 49sec
RIP.
Looks like something came off the A/C and it was on fire, and corkscrews into the ground.
Seems it was so quick, that the pilot couldn’t even take emergency measures.
