Danger of Carbon Monoxide In Your Vehicle
If stranded in your vehicle in deep snow, while the engine is running (for warmth) you MUST keep your vehicle’s exhaust pipe clear of accumulating snow or you will suffer (or die) from carbon monoxide poisoning.
While the list of useful/needed things is near endless, a family friend of the northern rockies where feet of snow can sweep in SUDDENLY, confided his WINTER in-car stash of bike-flag, wire-hanger, hose-clamp and 6 feet of vacuum hose. If caught & stuck, the intention was to secure the hose to tailpipe, wire-hanger the hose and bike-flag vertical. He did say that the hose was long enough to make a 'U' at the hanger so that the opening still faced down. Never knew if he used it but I thought the plan workable.

Good,point.
Your excellent advice reminds me of a couple of air force cadets headed back to CO Springs who got derailed off the road during a snow blizzard in W. Kansas/E. CO on I 70 several years ago. They lost their lives to CO poisoning.
