Today’s tomato’s taste like trash anyways. Unflavored mush.
The tomatoes from Mexico and Canada taste like a wet dog smells. Ugh!
The reason is, farmers generally use just NPK fertilizers.
This will grow vegetables.
Much of the minerals have been depleted from the soil in the USA.
If you grow your own veggies, add rock dust (ledgepack from a local quarry) and/or Jersey greensand.
For tomatoes, a couple of tablespoons of Jersey greensand under every plant.
For beets and carrots, till in about a ton of ledgepack per 200 square feet of garden.
Save a little aside to dress the top with.
This will reduce slugs as they don't like to crawl across the sharp stones.
There used to be many Jersey greensand quarries in New Jersey along the coast.
Government regulation and stupidity has left us with ONE.
The stuff is expensive, but a bag will last you a long time.
Jersey greensand has 26 minerals in it.
Depending on the stone being crushed, stone dust can have lot too.
