A couple of decades ago the company I worked for wanted to create a plastic with antimicrobial properties for use in appliances. They were considering using Triclosan as the additive so arranged for our team to meet with their scientists. The meeting did not go well as I asked them about potential carcinogenicity of their product, which they denied. Unfortunately for them I had the scientific publications with me that raised the issue. They claimed never to have seen them. I also told them that based on the structure of Triclosan I thought it would readily convert to a chlorinated dioxin (a carcinogen) under plastic extrusion/molding temperatures. They denied this, but it was found to be true after test runs. They also claimed that bacteria did not become resistant to Triclosan. At that point I told them I had already run some tests had a bunch of strains in the fridge that were resistant to many times above their recommended concentration, and did they want some slants? That was the most fun I ever had in a meeting.

This FDA webpage says the same thing — if triclosan is used as an ingredient in a fluoride toothpaste, it should be listed as an ingredient on the label.
