Prince Andrew will no longer be known as His Royal Highness 'in any official capacity' in a stunning downfall as his family tonight abandoned him to fight his sex abuse lawsuit in America as a private citizen.
Andrew, who remains Duke of York, also loses his military titles and royal patronages 'with the Queen's approval and agreement', Buckingham Palace said in a terse statement that brought his 61 years as a senior royal to a shock end.
He is only the 5th royal in recent history to stop officially using the HRH title, with Princess Diana and Sarah, Duchess of York, losing the styling after their divorce, while Prince Harry and Meghan Markle agreed to lose theirs publicly as part of their 'Megxit' deal with the Queen.
But like Harry and Meghan, Andrew will privately retain the title inside Palace walls, meaning he will not have to start bowing to all HRH members of the family.
The decision to shred Andrew's military ties is likely to be particularly painful for the Royal Navy veteran, who served with distinction as a helicopter pilot during the Falklands War.
It comes after a day after a US judge unequivocally rejected the prince's bid to have his sex abuse case thrown out, leaving him facing the prospect of being cross-examined for seven hours on camera with embarrassing questions on everything from his sex life and 'private parts'.
Andrew has been urged to settle out of court with his accuser Virginia Roberts Giuffre 'for the sake of his mother', who celebrates her Platinum Jubilee this year. But he could face difficulties given Ms Giuffre is said to be pushing for 'her day in court'.

I wonder if he thinks that it was worth it, giving up a life of comfort and luxury for some dumb young chick. I just never could figure out what is so intriguing and enticing for adult males when it comes to young girls. At least for me nothing is more enticing than an attractive well maintained, intelligent mature woman. But I guess that’s just me as we all have our preferences.

The royal family is totally exposed on this. I think we will find out eventually the prince was in on the blackmail. The princes role was to lure in individuals that would assume that because the prince was there indulging that they were safe to indulge. I believe that members of the Queens entourage were in on it and it is verry possible this would happen without the Queen herself knowing. Remember his security detail is provided by the Queen and they serve the Queens interest not Andrews. there is no way that the prince is even allowed near Epstein without Epstein being vetted by British intelligence .
