Sort of related....
Actually, there is a feature on my new car that allows me to start it remotely. I think that a lot of new cars can do that. I don’t like it. And it is sold and a convenience.
If you can start the car remotely, then you can certainly turn it off remotely. Or it would be easy to configure it to shut the car off. Can you disable the car completely? Probably.
Remotely = through a phone app. I should have been clearer.
On my 2012 Tacoma you can start it remotely. It is a great feature in the winter if you are parked out side during a snowstorm.
However, if you unlock the door you have to put the key in the ignition prior to touching anything else or it shuts itself off.
This was the first vehicle I have ever had with this option.
Just like the rear view camera, I would never buy another vehicle without it.
We had remote start o. A truck once, and everytime it got down to a certain temp, the dang thing would start during the night. Not sure if it was the remote start, or some mechanism that automaticslly started the vehicle at certain low temp. First time I heard it happen, thought someone was stealing the vehicle lol.
Kia offers that feature but if Toyota offers it they have kept it hidden, I just bought a 22 Highlander they made slight mention of the continuing charge for key fob function. First year is free, there after will be continuing price increase I am sure.
