This is pure speculation, I have no research, no facts to back it up, just my own observations.
It would seem to me, the target audience for comics is teen boys. Teen boys, in spite of what the left wants to think, want girls. A comic presenting a queer superhero is a major buzz kill. There is a reason the women are drawn the way they are in comic books.
I know if I were transported back to comic book reading days, I’d much rather read an Archie comic, (and no offense but Archie is really lame), than a queer superman.

At least Archie had Betty and Veronica. It was tame, but nice. I don’t think I ever saw an Archie comic get political.

The new Archies TV series,
Riverdale is also said to be dark and creepy.
I'm not sure Superman comics really have many readers nowadays anyway. Kids haven't been crying out for them even before the gay thing.
