On Monday afternoon, MSNBC anchor Katy Tur feared a protest by Canadian truckers against government COVID regulations was tantamount to a “national insurrection.” She then brought on a Canadian journalist who detailed the threats posed by the demonstrators: Plinko, pizza ovens, saunas, and hot tubs.
“The mayor of Ottawa has declared a state of emergency as truckers protest Canada’s COVID vaccine requirements. Thousands of truckers have virtually shutdown the city, with Canadian officials calling the situation a, quote, ‘nationwide insurrection,’” Tur warned at the top of the segment. However, she then admitted: “The protests, which have been going on for over a week – more than a week, have not resulted in any serious physical violence so far…”

Moments later, Tur again hyped: “We’ve heard it called a nationwide insurrection. It sounds like, you know, you’re talking about closed streets in the center of town there. It sounds like it’s causing quite a bit of havoc not just in that city but across the country.” It was at that point that Bergeron-Oliver breathlessly described the supposed danger posed by the protest:
Following that list of horrors, the reporter whined: “And so the big question has been, why isn’t Ottawa Police enforcing this stronger? They say they just don’t have the resources, that this situation is too volatile….it’s getting too dangerous to do much of anything.”
Tur worried: “It’s incredible to hear they have saunas set up or pizza ovens set up.”

Shutting down Ottawa is one thing, it’s embarrassing to Trudeau who can’t bring himself to resolve the situation with the obvious solution, get rid of the mandates and the truckers leave.
Shutting down Ottawa is one thing shutting down the bridge between Ontario and Detroit is a real escalation.
The amount of commerce and car parts that cross that bridge on a daily basis is HUGE...if that bridge stays blocked for a week or two the auto industry in Detroit will real problems to deal with...

It is pretty obvious that Katy does not know what she is talking about. She needs to learn the definition of the word insurrection. You can call a pig a bird but that will not make it fly.

Again “insurrection” means a polite and peaceful protest by common people against any given progressive policy and which is gaining support.
The proper governmental response is to kill a bunch of innocent people and Imprison the rest.

The crossing times update is well out of date by their posted benchmarks (an update at least every hour) for BWB and Coutts.

I could be wrong, but this very well may mean that the times are getting worse at both points.
While Sault wasn’t updated for a while it is now back up—I wonder if things are getting touch and go up there. If BWB is too much of a pain, that is the next logical crossing if one doesn’t want to head to Buffalo.

The shutting down of the bridges was not an escalation, it was part of their plan from the start. The truckers are serious about their cause which is freedom.
Especially if one is operating out of NW Indiana—it likely would double the fuel. Once one gets into eastern Ohio, Buffalo becomes more attractive, and if one is far too the west and plans, Sault, while a problem, doesn’t double fuel costs. However, I suspect that Sault will get clogged, and while one can head up to Minnesota, the Trans-Canada is a nice name for a very important two lane road until one gets well into Ontario and can’t actually handle 401/402 style volume.
It’s a Canadian Government site, so the volume of inquiries is not a problem, and they are managing to keep up with the other 24 crossings. If they are trying to be really accurate and things have deteriorated to the point where that is not possible, keeping outdated data up rather than posting “between 7 and 9 hours, we hope” is one way of approaching things. However, I suspect it is a case of trying to keep bad news quiet as long as possible.
