AUSTIN (KXAN) — At least 11 motorcycle crashes have occurred in Austin within the last three days. Almost all of these resulted in serious injuries and at least four were fatal, said Austin-Travis County EMS.
On average, one motorcyclist dies in a Texas crash every day, the Texas Department of Transportation reported on its website.
This means the Austin rate of motorcyclist deaths in the last 72 hours is at least 1.3 times the normal rate of all of Texas.
Hunter Coleman, a shop manager at Austin City Powersports, said one of the reasons Austin is such a hard environment for motorcyclists to navigate is the amount of traffic in the city.

Cherry picking.
I had four over a period of about 20 years, put maybe 100,000 miles total on them.
Sold the last one when I was in my mid-40’s. Too many close calls, figured it was time to stop while I was in one piece and alive. I still lived in a city then and just getting out of town to ride had gotten too “exciting”.

Would it have anything to do with “defund police?”
Oh my, 1.3 times the normal average? Data cluster. Was the accident rate 1.3 times lower than the normal average last month?
If you ride a street bike you will crash. Hopefully it will not be fatal. There’s a strong chance someone will pull out in front of you because they didn’t see you.
Bikes were nearly my primary transit 1977-1981
Kawasaki H2 ...a 750 two stroke kunis various expansion chambers
Suzuki GS1100RS ....race bike..kunis yosh gassed
Kawasaki GPZ 1100 tripe bored kunis yosh gassed
One last hit me on the 750
On the Suzuki I laid her down in gravel ...on a curve high speed...pins
Dirt bike crashes usually don’t involve cars ....though oak tree in my way can crunch
These are the realities
Helmet
Proper great
Shoes
Gloves.....after helmet ....most important cause when you hit it’s always hands out instinctive
Yes I thought of that. Nowadays people on all sides of debates cherry pick stats to support their agenda.
As my biker buddy used to say to me back in the 1970s: “Time to put on my brain bucket and get my knees in the breeze!”
I read that Austin had so many retirements and resignations that the police brass was reassigned detectives and traffic enforcement to regular patrol jobs.
Actually it has everything to do with the fact that Austin has one of the worst traffic problems anywhere. For years their motto was “if you don’t build it they won’t come”. However that did not work and so their highway infrastructure is woefully inadequate.
Been riding for over 25 years and never crashed....guess I have someone watching out.....any idea what one of the most (if not THE most) common injury related to motorcycle riding?
Bikers put more responsibility on me so they can get their adrenaline rush. At least sky divers aren’t involving me in their Russian roulette.
“For years their motto was “if you don’t build it they won’t come”. However that did not work...”
I suspect that was before hurricane katrina.
Of course that's too long to fit on a little sign.
My daughter, the ER nurse, calls them Donor-cycles.
Motorcycle “WTF is going on here?” PING
Note to self. If I ever need an organ transplant, head to Austin.
Sounds like riding a motorcycle in Austin is almost as dangerous as going to eat at a Twin Peaks in Waco.
Mine was a severed ACL. Also numerous cases of road rash.
What do you call a biker who rides without a helmet?
A brain donor...
