Gray wolves will regain federal protection across most of the lower 48 United States following a court ruling Thursday that struck down a Trump Administration decision to take the animals off the endangered species list.
Senior District Judge Jeffrey S. White, of United States District Court for the Northern District of California, found that the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, in declaring wolf conservation a success and removing the species from federal protection, did not adequately consider threats to wolves outside of the Great Lakes and Northern Rocky Mountains where they have rebounded most significantly.
Although the decision to delist wolves came under the Trump administration, the Biden administration has defended it in court.

One of Dubya's feral judges who "grew in office" to become a Good Lefty - Jeffrey S. White.
Plus, he's on the New Supreme Court - the Northern District of California, the Little District Court That Could.
Looks like ND California is four judges light.
This is a GOOD thing. Make the remaining Commies on the court work - that will keep them out of mischief, for the most part.
We can tell that Jeffrey S. White has turned Lefty, because he waited till Trump was out of office to take senior status [at age 75!!! - unusual], and open up a seat for a JoeLitburo Commie-appointee.

Trail joggers and hikers will have a new predator, beside mountain lions and bears, wanting to get a taste.
Carnivorous vermin.
Are you talking about the wolves or the court?
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has pontificated about the dangers of allowing every federal district court judge to set national policy.
I’m a hillbilly and I think I have a good idea. Let’s trap as many Wolves as we can on the northern part of the states and give them a ride down to the southern border and turn them loose. Whata you thank Buford?
Yes.
Thomas is right. That part I do not understand. It should be outside of the district court’s jurisdiction.
🤣 I was just going to write the same thing.
Hooray for wolves, pray for the unborn.
A couple of years ago wolves killed and ate an elk on a suburban front lawn near Hailey, ID.
Wolves have been driving elk right into town there. Consider the danger of annoying a 2000 pound cow elk that’s camped in your driveway. Unintended consequence of protecting wolves.
As long as there is a Democrat alive, the unborn will never get Federal Protection.
I think NYNY and LACA could both use some education in the Way of the Wolf. We might even get some support for outright extermination, given enough time.
Agreed. And with regard to this specific ruling, it is madness. I’m ok with wolves in sufficient remote territory to sustain a viable population. But wolves and people in any numbers are in general just not compatible.
What’s next: Re-establish the buffalo as they were 200 years ago?
There are four states that currently allow wolf hunting: Alaska, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. All of them offer resident and non-resident opportunities for the controversial carnivores.
Michigan is the fifth state and is currently updating their DNR’s 2015 wolf management plan, and should include “a public attitude survey.” The department expects completion of a revised plan by June 2022.
Question: How does this ruling effect those states? What happens to those who have already legally harvested a wolf?
