Mexico has acknowledged that the U.S. government has suspended all imports of Mexican avocados after a U.S. plant safety inspector in Mexico received a threat.
The surprise, temporary suspension was confirmed late Saturday on the eve of the Super Bowl, the biggest sales opportunity of the year for Mexican avocado growers - though it would not affect game-day consumption since those avocados had already been shipped.
Avocado exports are the latest victim of the drug cartel turf battles and extortion of avocado growers in the western state of Michoacan, the only state in Mexico fully authorized to export to the U.S. market.

They sure did a great job of promoting this rather dull tasting fruit. Millions of people have been hooked. Everyone to their own. I’ll take an apple or a peach.
Biden’s DEA: How can we punish the cartels? Hmmmm (thinking sound)...I know. Let’s cut off avocado imports. That’ll fix ‘em!!!
Avocados make me gag. And the fact that the cartels have taken over the traffic is more then enough to keep me from ever buying any.
I buy ones from local farms - they aren’t from cartels.
Americans won’t go without their blow, fentanyl and meth…. So they can’t hit them there….Go after the avocados though, bcz we won’t care. I’m not joking, either.
No local avocado farms in Utah, lol.
But I think you said you don't lie them.
Illegals, OK, Murders, OK, Rapists, OK, Child molesters, OK, Drugs, fentanyl OK, Child sex trafficking, OK,....AVACADOS!?...OH HELL NO!
Biden might or might not keep out those dangerous little Mexican alligator pears.
But rest assured, he’s continuing his mass- importation of illegal (unvented) Mexicans (complete with the Mexican gangsters and all the super- dangerous Islamic terrorists that just fly into Mexico for easy entry into USA)
They even advertised in Superbowl. I remember, because it was the only add which was normal.
Fortunately, I have an avocado tree in the back yard. It won’t produce for another few months. Sigh.
Who advertised?
Haas?
It is similar to a Hass, about 2x bigger. Rich, buttery pulp. Yummy.
I try to avoid buying produce from Mexico. I live in the hometown of the Hass avocado, so I’ll take the local fruit.
avocado isn’t bad, I’ll eat it but I think it’s overrated. It’s not all that.
I understand avocados are a big consumer of water. A friend in the San Diego area was lamenting the loss of their trees to a drought a couple years ago.
