(if you saw Steve Martin in the 1970s, you heard him use snippets of this old tune on banjo -- he was after all a prop comic, at least in part. This is the full version he recorded for "The Steve Martin Brothers" album.)

On that same album he recorded an original, “Hoedown at Alices”, and it turns out that he re-recorded it recently, for his album “The Crow”.
