IMHO, he was murdered by the WWII “deep state”.
Yep, the idea is laughed at by PC modern historians but I read part of Oreily’s book (and others) and it seems plausible.
There was an abiding fear in the US Government in 1945 that should Patton return to the United States from Germany, he would blow the entire FDR-New Deal hierarchy wide open and demolish what was then a very deep penetration of the entire government apparatus by Soviet and pro-Communist agents.
The belief that he was taken out by the staging of an “accident” by an Army transport truck in front of his chauffeur-driven vehicle was not so far-fetched, but effectively covered up at the time.
