There was another movie, IIRC that starred Linda Hamilton, called T.A.G. (The Assassination Game)

Back in the early 80's we had a Gotcha! game going at my college.

After one play through the admin put a stop to it as it was significantly interfering with teaching.

At the end, the two or three players left had accumulated posses that would surround them like a giant amoeba as they walked through campus.

Totally surreal.
