So why has this information now been released as a news story? Sure, it’s entertaining reading in a lurid sort of way, but the ex cop was not a politician or public figure.

Why is it news.

1. Police are supposed to be of high integrity
2. Conduct outside of their job reflects on the officer and organization
3. It is rare for a police officer to ever be charged with a crime that you or I would do serious time for
4. Corruption starts with this kind of activity, most of the people in that industry are not good, ethical, drug free, non-criminals. So the officer probably looked the other way on a lot of crime.
5. Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? is a Latin phrase found in the work of the Roman poet Juvenal from his Satires (Satire VI, lines 347–348). It is literally translated as “Who will guard the guards themselves?”, though it is also known by variant translations, such as “Who watches the watchers?” and “Who will watch the watchmen?”.
