Russia destroys Chernobyl lab, gaining 'highly active samples' BY JOSEPH CHOI - 03/23/22 12:37 PM EDT

© AP Photo/Sergei Grits The Russian military has reportedly destroyed a laboratory near the decommissioned Chernobyl nuclear power plant that was working to improve the management of nuclear waste and contained "highly active samples."

The State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management said in a statement on social media that Russian forces had destroyed the most recently established laboratory in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.

The laboratory, which was created with the cooperation of the European Union, sought to improve the infrastructure for handling radioactive materials. According to the agency, the lab cost 6 million euros.

The facility also held "highly active samples" and "samples of radionuclides" which the agency said are now in the "hands of the enemy" as opposed to those of a "civilized world."

Zelensky asks Japan to increase sanctions on Russia Zelensky: 100K trapped in Mariupol under 'inhumane conditions' Russian forces took control of Chernobyl early in the invasion. After the defunct nuclear plant was seized, more than 60 workers continued to work for about 600 hours to maintain the facility until volunteers were able to replace them.

Earlier this week, Ukrainian nuclear operator Energoatom said that the automated radiation monitoring system in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone had stopped working.

The agency said there was no data on "the current state of radiation pollution in the Exclusion Zone, which makes it impossible to adequately respond to threats of deterioration of radiation situations in the Exclusion Zone."

I think Russia is engaging in their version of the Alsos Mission, which was the project for finding and tracking the nuclear projects in NAZI Germany by the OSS. They found that Germany was at least a year behind the Allies.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

According to the Budapest Agreement, Russia is clearly in violation by invading, so the agreement invites the UN and the US and Ireland and Britain to get involved.

My preferred form of involvement is to help Build Back Better their nukes, since the agreement is null and void.

2. The Russian Federation, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the United States of America reaffirm their obligation to refrain from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or

The last TASS article I read was about how the ukes were maybe gonna build nukes. https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/4044173/posts

If their invasion is going to plan, they are giving far too much time to the ukes to build their nukes.

https://freerepublic.com/focus/news/4048918/posts?page=83#83

Kevmo to woodpusher Kevmo: The ukes had nukes in 1994. Wood: The Ukes had Russian nukes. Now they have huge mounds of rubble instead of cities. ***Proof positive that nukes are a deterrent, absence of nukes are an invitation to walk all over a country when your neighbor is simply a bully.

They have Russia next door. It seems Russia objects to their saber rattling about joining NATO. ***They can object all they want. They INVADED. Twice.

Good luck with that bomb making plan. ***Thanks.

And designing a nuclear bomb is not making a nuclear bomb. The kid could not go to the hardware store and get the parts. ***But a country with 15 nuke power plants and a Chernobyl could do so.

It seems difficult to build one of those things ***Not so difficult. Just clumsy yields of kilotons rather than megatons, that’s all.

and keep it a secret. ***We kept ours a secret until we used it. The nuke pathway of the Ukes hasn’t been all that much of a secret.

The Ukes had fifteen nuclear power plants. It seems some of those are under new management. ***Yup. The Ukes are running out of time.

We were not in an existential war. We were not threatened with extinction at the end of WW2. ***Interesting take. We WERE threatened with extinction throughout WW2 alongside the rest of Europe while that whole program was being developed. And when the time came to blow the frack out of the japs, it was an easy decision to make in terms of expected American casualties versus expected Jap casualties, somewhere in the realm of 100,000 to 1. In addition, since the japs showed a propensity for fighting to the last half dozen men, we saved about 5 million jap lives as well as 1 million American lives. But... we’re just getting nuanced now.

We would have had to lose a lot of troops to fight it to a finish. We dropped nukes on cities and ended the war. As Patton said, nobody wins a war by dying for his country, wars are won but making the other dumb bastard die for his country. ***And your point is???

Since we stopped being the sole nuclear power, there was been a recognition of mutual assured destruction (MAD) if there be one. ***And MAD is within reach of Ukraine because while the Rukes are in a position to turn Ukraine into glass, the Ukes are in a position to turn Ruke POLITICAL landscape into glass just by nuking a couple cities.

The idea that the Ukes would nuke Russia might make Russia object to them having nukes. ***They already have. https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/4044173/posts

We have never had any obligation to go to war for Ukraine. ***We signed that Budapest thing. We could help them avoid a nuke war. That is our obligation.

Even Ukraine has admitted that. ***WHere?

The Budapest Memorandum is a Memorandum, not a Treaty. ***Semantics. Tell that to the tens of millions of lives you directly threaten by doing nothing to honor an agreement that left them high & dry. We had a vital interest in not jeopardizing hundreds of millions of lives with those nukes, so we signed that agreement. The Ukes HONORED that agreement; the Rukes VIOLATED that agreement and invaded twice; and Pukes like you are busy trying that there pantywaist appeasement semantics approach to abrogate our end of that agreement.

There is no military obligation even spoken about. ***Then give them back their nukes. Make the whole thing their problem.

4. The Russian Federation, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the United States of America reaffirm their commitment to seek immediate United Nations Security Council action to provide assistance to Ukraine, as a non-nuclear-weapon state party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, if Ukraine should become a victim of an act of aggression or an object of a threat of aggression in which nuclear weapons are used. There’s a memorandum worth its weight in paper. It commits to seek immediate United Nations Security Council action to provide assistance to Ukraine. Sounds like a plan. You never know though. Somebody might veto the idea. ***Yup, the whole Budapest Memorandum thing might be just completely void, like you are arguing above. Which means the Ukes are free to pursue their nukes. And start a nuclear war, because... they are in an existential war.

If these labs really existed then the Russians would get more mileage out of them by inviting foreign media and experts to go examine them instead of reducing them to meaningless rubble.

I think they were abandoned. There is evidence of an active nuclear program in Ukraine. That’s what I would do in an existential war.

Ditto that. Maybe Israel could lend a few nukes to Ukraine so they can demand the Russian scumbags go home or burn.

So this was a lab whose function it was to try to find ways
to more safely handle nuclear waste?

Whew! I’ll bet everyone feels more safe that having been
shut down. /s

This is the first lab I’ve heard of Russia taking control of,
and it seems any findings there could be used to help Russia
or any other nation that has nuclear waste.

Oh wait, this has to be propaganda. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

That’s gotta be one of the most dangerous things to do, lend nukes to someone.

It’s like lending a sniper rifle to your uncle whom you know is in deep shiite with the Mafia and has that weird look in his eye.

But... lending them the knowledge, not so traceable. I think the ukes already have the knowledge, even the fissionable material, they’re just a tad slow on action. They act like a battered woman. Even some battered women who have a gun will not use it. Some kind of psychological thing operating.

***I think it was a simple nuke lab for building nukes. The ukes might have suitcase nukes any day now.

This is the first lab I’ve heard of Russia taking control of,
***Yup, that’s quite the salient, which is why I went out of my way to post this article.

and it seems any findings there could be used to help Russia
or any other nation that has nuclear waste.
***Yeah huh. Chernobyl was also the perfect place to hide a nuke building program.

Oh wait, this has to be propaganda. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
***Wait, whut? Propaganda from which side?

Were there centrifuges?

Was there weapons grade nuclear byproducts found?

Were there any other telltale signs of a nuclear weapons
program?

Were the press or outside nuclear experts presented with
findings on site?

Wow we have fertile minds around here.

A suitcase nuke any day now...

Wow.

People like you that are encouraging this war should go over there and try and kill Russians yourself. The war was over before it started. All you are doing is encouraging other people to die needlessly, and maybe, even start a nuclear war.

It’s amazing the stupid shit you monkeys and apes are willing to believe, but you’ll still come spam perfectly good threads and articles about “fake news”.

This sounds like utter nonsense. So, from neihther would be my guess.

Were there centrifuges?
***Not as far as I can tell. The ukes took them, little doubt. But a good investigator will look for evidence that centrifuges were being used. Not so easy to do.

Was there weapons grade nuclear byproducts found?
***Of course not. They retreated and at least took the most valuable stuff.

Were there any other telltale signs of a nuclear weapons
program?
***Probably, but such things would be classified I imagine. Think about the Russian response: Destroying this lab. It makes no sense if it’s all about handling nuke waste, right? But it makes a ton of sense if they found a secret nuke-building lab.

Were the press or outside nuclear experts presented with
findings on site?
***You read the article just like me. We deal with the information we have.

Wow we have fertile minds around here.
***Inductive reasoning.

A suitcase nuke any day now...
***That is how I’m viewing this.

Wow.
***Yes, wow. This is a very dicey situation. But of course, maybe it isn’t. Maybe the ukes get their butts kicked and don’t have any semblance of a nuke program and just... take up the backside. The trick is to look at the evidence and discern what’s going on behind the scenes.

What would you do in the ukes’ position? You got the knowledge, the fissionable material, and now the motivation to build nukes in an existential war, just like we did.

People like you that are encouraging this war should go over there and try and kill Russians yourself.
***I will. Just open up a GoFundMe account to send me there, so you can track my expenses. I’ll join the nuke building program and help them kick the Rukes back to their own borders. Then the Ukes can have their own aggressive neutrality — no NATO, no Russia nonsense — that they’ve always wanted.

The war was over before it started.
***Seems pretty likely.

All you are doing is encouraging other people to die needlessly, and maybe, even start a nuclear war.
***Hey, I think when WE dropped OUR nuke bombs during our existential war, we did the right thing. We saved 5M jap lives and 1M American lives and ended the war. The operation itself incurred very, very few American casualties, almost all enemy casualties. Such a program makes sense to pursue for any country in an existential war, which even Russia has claimed they would do.
https://freerepublic.com/focus/news/4048918/posts?page=83#83

So by pointing all this stuff out and getting support for the country that’s been invaded, I might actually be preventing a nuclear war. Take that in your pipe and smoke it.

I think you’re blowing things out too much.

If Russia had any inkling of them having a nuclear weapons
program, they would have exposed it for all the world to
hear.

I don’t honestly think the Ukraine could evacuate this lab
in the manner you seem to think they could, in just a short
period of time.

I think you’re blowing things out too much.
***I’m just looking at it from their perspective, what I would do in their shoes. Ask yourself why the Russkies even bother to post this story, it’s inconsequential if it were just a lab for handling nuke waste... and why did the Russkies destroy it? That does not add up.

If Russia had any inkling of them having a nuclear weapons
program, they would have exposed it for all the world to
hear.
***This article is the beginning of the Russian inkling. There’s another one earlier:

***They had plenty of warning that there was a military buildup.
