Most people don’t own there iPhones today. They take them out on two-year plans typically before they are paid off. Then they take out a two-year plan on the latest model. Thus, like leasing a car, they never actually own their iPhones.
Exactly. And they trade in their old iPhone for a “discount” on the new model. That’s what I do anyways and I’m sure I’m a fairly common customer. Usually after two years my phone is pretty beat up and I’m a sucker for the latest and greatest. I think I’m on my fourth iPhone now, a 13 Pro Max.

You just described most of our family members from ages 60 down to the 20’s.
We, also own our 2 vehicles.
And still they line up around the corner everytime Apple issues a newer iPhone with a seventh camera or whatnot. What lemmings!
I tend to upgrade my phone only when I can no longer use some features due to age/lack of support. My last phone lasted almost six years.
I just got a new iPhone. My last one I paid for for two years and had it for eight years. I didn’t want to get rid of it but Apple was going to stop supporting the technology and Foxxcon, the company that makes them in China is shut down because of Covid and I was afraid of supply chain shortages so I went ahead and bought a new one. Or should I say rented it?
