Three fun facts. Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley, CA, is a popular street. The Pony Express lasted 10 years because the telegraph put them out of business. Laying telegraph cable across the Atlantic in 1865 was a big deal.

This is a WONDERFUL read if you have an interest in communications history and the development of systems to lay transoceanic cable. The number of failures is astonishing as is the financial investment needed to ultimately achieve success.
