17 Gangs Have Dispatched Crews to Rob the Wealthiest People in LA, Police Say

Police have learned that 17 gangs have honed in on the wealthiest residents of the Los Angeles area by robbing them after they leave venues catering to the rich and famous.

Police said the robberies are often carried out by crews working from multiple vehicles and that the high-end handbags, watches and other items are then sold regionally on a thriving black market, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Violence towards victims is becoming a hallmark of the crimes, said Capt. Jonathan Tippet, who leads a Los Angeles Police Department task force formed as the number of high-end violent robberies began to spike.

There’s no chance or opportunity for these victims even to comply. They’re just running up to people and attacking them, whether that’s putting a gun in their face or punching them and beating on them,” Tippet said. “Pistol whipping them as well.”

Police said that there were 165 so-called “follow-home” robberies in 2021 and 56 to date this year.

Gangs including the Bloods and Crips are involved, Tippet said.

The robberies are organized, he said, with sometimes as many as five vehicles converging on a target identified by a spotter who alerts gangs when wealthy potential targets are on the move.

“In my 34 years on the job, I’ve never seen anything like this,” he said.

LAPD is fighting back, Tippet said, with 24 robbery arrests involving 47 robberies, as well as 16 gun arrests and six attempted murder arrests. But many of those arrested are back out on the street.

That was “Wild Kingdom”. Animal Kingdom is a dark drama about a criminal family based in So.Cal. starring Ellen Barkin. So dark I couldn’t finish the series, too destructive to society.

My work takes me to the westside of L.A. and Santa Monica on a daily basis. It isn’t unusual to pull up to an intersection in these areas and be surrounded by $1M+ worth of private vehicles in the form of exotics, high end luxury, classics, and the run of the mill high dollar SUVs. Billboards along Santa Monica Blvd advertise Rolex, Breitling, and Tudor watches. Handbags, totes, and bags, by the likes of Louis Vuitton; Mark Jacobs, and Gucci, are prominently displayed and are as common as the Starbucks on every block. The crews performing these robberies are the same organized looters who pillaged stores in the high end areas during the summer of Floyd protests. The police were as distracted then as they are apathetic now. One of the biggest growth growth industries here is private security. Licensed-trained-certified-ARMED (ex-LEOs bring a premium plus) make six figures even on a part time basis. Having a body guard is now as much of a status symbol as a Rolls-Royce or a ranch in Montana.

Just go to the Beverly Center and follow shoppers at the high end stores. Most of those spending the big bucks are Chinese and Russians - they couldn’t identify a Blood from a Crip.

The cops should find some unknown actors looking for jobs and set up sting operations in the rich enclaves. How to keep them locked up after they are nabbed is another problem.

These elite POS have been bashing the cops for years. Now they want their protection?

Eff them! I hope they all get robbed.

Unless this is stopped quickly and effectively, it will become a national model.

More suggestions?

Move to San Jose, Silicon Valley, and then up to Washington State and Seattle / Bellingham.

Oh, and then Boston and Georgetown near DC.

A number of these crimes looked amazingly similar to YouTube videos of a few years back from South Africa.

It's nice to know that people are getting so much at-home learning out of "How To" videos on YouTube.

I thought the Crips did away with the Bloods. Or did the Bloods link up with MS13?

Not in the States with constitutional carry. These gangs don’t go there. They stay where the pickings are easier.

Vote for evil, stupid politicians, get evil, stupid policies.

But isn’t this just like the “tax the rich” attitude Dems always have: “It won’t affect ME, so who cares?”
