Study finds ‘faster than expected’ sea level rise at Dublin Bay [Ireland]

Researchers studying Dublin Bay have said recent sea level rise there has happened at “approximately double the rate of global sea level rise”.

The study examined sea level trends over eight decades and confirmed elevated rates in recent years.

Researchers at the Hamilton Institute and ICARUS Climate Research Center at Maynooth University found that the Dublin sea level rose by an estimated 1.1 mm per year between 1953 and 2016.

Researchers said the overall sea level rise is “in line with expected trends”, but large variability across many decades has led to higher rates in recent years.

The research published in Ocean Science identified a rate of 7 mm per year between 1997 and 2016.

“This recent sea level rise is faster than expected at approximately double the rate of global sea level rise.” said Amin Shoari Nejad, lead author of the research and a PhD student at the Hamilton Institute at Maynooth University. …

Wow, an average rise of 2¾ inches over 63 years or an average rise of 5¼ inches over 19 years . . . what to believe, eh? Someone does not know their math or is doing some serious figure fudging, that’s for sure.

Like the east coast of the U.S , Ireland was under ice sheet. The crust is recovering from the weight and parts are sinking, which gives the appearance of sea level rise. https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2019/02/study-of-sea-level-rise-finds-land-sinking-along-east-coast/

How can one tell either phenomenon from these minuscule alleged measurements, is what I’d like to know.

Just look at water-level photos of Liberty Island in New York harbor during the 1890s vs today. That island doesn’t sit very high above the water, and it is obvious comparing the photos that there has been ZERO change in 130 years.

The crust is recovering from the weight and parts are sinking, which gives the appearance of sea level rise.

I have come to the conclusion that some people are willfully ignorant of logic and as long as the story they get fed supports their worldview, they don't care if it stands up to examination.

The world's oceans are not like a concrete swimming pool. Over the past 100 years a whole lot of construction has occurred on coastlines. People want to live there, buildings and roadways are heavy, people need water to drink. Soil gets compacted, aquifers get drained, erosion pulls topsoil away, pollution kills off oyster beds etc... and that's before you account for plate tectonics and the effects of the last ice age. If you wanted to so something real about sea level measurements, you would return. Portions of coastal cities throughout the western world to nature. Restore an equilibrium with nature and allow wetlands that have been overtaken by humanity to be depopulated and the residents resettled to places where their existence doesn't insult Gaia so darned much.

The climatocracy believes that somehow this epoch is unusual. Check out stuff about the younger dryas period and the heating that occured towards the close of it. Very interesting

Someone should explain this to the wealthy American Political Left.

Before Covid, they were paying record prices for water front homes on Martha's Vineyard, in The Hamptons on Long Island, NY, and on Malibu beach in southern California.

Can someone explain how sea level rise can be higher in one place and lower in another when you remove variable factors like tides; which are mainly caused by the moon? If you take a measuring cup and add water the level goes up uniformly. The same happens with a swimming pool, and reservoirs. Seems to me that it doesn't matter the size of the body of water, it would remain uniform. I believe Alchemies would have something to say about this.

I don't know about Dublin, but I've seen similar stories about Miami and Manhattan. Knowing something about the construction of those cities (like most large coastal cities) they use land fill to expand the cities. It is impossible to have a historical measurement of tides because the measurement location has to be moved every time city expands. (It's really interesting to take a look at old maps of cities and compare them to present day maps.)

I have yet to get a straight answer than makes any scientific sense from a global warming nut job. Their thinking ends with glaciers melt and that causes sea level rise, as if glaciers melting is abnormal or something. It's part of their definition. Glaciers are supposed to melt, and became glaciers at the end of the last ice age when they began to melt. Prior to that it was just snow and ice pack.

Your so full of it. Do you really really think that the concrete, tarmac, and other infrastructure can compare to a two mile thick glacier?. Ireland sits on the edge of western edge of the the European Subduction Zone and is subsiding. The sea is not rising, the Eastern edge of Ireland is sinking. FYI the alluvial Eastern edge of Britain is eroding into the North Sea. Stick around 50 million years snd watch it disappear.

I wonder how underwater volcano formation effects sea level.

There are places like Maine that are still rising 12k years after the glaciers pressed them down for 100k years.

Perhaps the land is subsiding because water being what it is will rise the same everywhere. Tides and storms excepted.

If you read the article they are talking about changes like 1.1mm and 7mm.......I agree. The ‘technology’ to exact a conclusion on ‘measurements’ of this size would be suspect, IMO.
