“It used to connect to tunnels that ran under the town,”

I think I would be looking for the bricked over entrances.

A pretty good bomb shelter/fallout shelter.

It needs to have a ventilation system put in place

Install some acoustic tile, and make one hell of a practice room for guitar and drums.

We have that here in the nearest town too. It used to connect all of the buildings in town for coal deliveries in the winter because the snow was so deep there was no other efficient way to deliver it.

Not nearly as cool but the houses/shops along the main road up the hill in Jim Thorpe have the creek/rapids running under their basements out to the lehigh river. some have windows to view.

Every owner of old properties with large storage basements in PA like to claim to be part of the Underground Railroad. Actually these large stone lined vaulted rooms were usually used to store either food or most often beer in barrels… which needed to be kept cool to extend the storage life of the brew. No one appreciates how important beer was as an everyday beverage in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
