Recovering from both the flu and a back issue, but I’ll most likely live. :)

There are 14 Marden's discount stores in Maine.

They have fabric departments of varying size.

Even with sales tax, it's worth the trip.

My wife is a quilter and gets most of her fabric at Marden's.

A good way to play tourist is to go from Marden's to Marden's.

They also have food, hardware, clothing, you name it.

Some items are always available, some is a one time thing from a closed business, train wreck, etc. A lot like military surplus.

“I’ll most likely live.”

Lol! There’s a lot to be said for living.

Thanks, Diana. Sorry to hear you’ve met the flu bug. After
all we heard during the scamdemic, it was thought he left town on the rails.

Who, here, remembers the CHRISTOPHER LOWELL SHOW on Discovery?
Did you enjoy it, discover new ideas and new ways to look at your home? Are there any sites or shows being broadcast that offer anything similar today? Personally, loved that show. Even as it begin to morph into the routine Discovery
‘beat the clock’ attitude, it would still be watched and taped. Really miss that afternoon hour of energy and spark.

Yesterday, I mailed off 2 pairs of knitted fingerless mittens to relatives in FL. I’ve wanted to send them mittens for some time, but they’re already hitting high temps (90). My opportunity arrived when they let me know they’re headed to Canada later this month for some early season walleye fishing. The outfitter flies them into a remote lake with a cabin & they fish for about a week. They’ll fly back out, resupply over 2 days, then fly into another lake for a week. The weather is supposed to be very chilly if not downright cold - mitten weather :-)

The mittens aren’t for fishing - would be easy to get hooks caught in the stitches, but around the cabin & traveling, they might come in handy. I also gave the pastor a pair for his wife last month - they were headed to Norway on a cruise - spring temps were highs in the 50’s. Since I didn’t know her color preference, I gave her a gray pair that has some occasional black flecks (Tin Roof) - neutral color that should go with whatever she’s wearing. The fishermen are getting ‘Green Camo Stripe’ & ‘Cedar Cinnamon’ - both are very outdoorsy.

Diana, thank you for this thread. Hope you are feeling better. I mended a pair of slacks for my son-in-law (does that count?), and shopped for my daughter to select fabric for some new placemats, while we were in FL a couple weeks ago.

This week, I actually bought 2 of the fabrics, plus an acceptable border coordinator fabric from Hobby Lobby, and the cloth has been washed and pressed. I am trying some sort of hefty pellon instead of batting this time ($$ savings). Will see how it goes. Just hoping the thread I have in mind will work, color-wise.

I made 12 placemats in March for my daughter-in-law, and will make 10 this round. After a year away from sewing for various reasons, and now retired, I am trying to start back into it with smallish goals.

Free Pattern - A baby blanket in corner-to-corner moss stitch with a Puff edge stitch for the border ..... really simple, but attractive design, IMO.

She’s got other free patterns, but I haven’t had time to look through them yet - rainy days coming up so I’ll probably take a look then.
