I remember my mother doing the same with cloth diapers. Same production line including the bleach and (when we had one) a washing machine.
She also bleached dishcloths. Which I was surprised to learn that not everybody does - reusing dishcloths without bleaching between uses is very unhealthy.

yes, thats a customary practice in my extended family also.
But to tell the truth most mothers in our extended family prefer to use cloth dipaers right up to when baby walks. They switch to the disposable diapers that have an elastic seal around legs whichi is a help . but then thats only for a short time because the little gaffers start using their own potty.
