Everything always gets messy once kids get involved — especially when it comes to relationships and marriages.
This story is no different — a 27-year-old man and his 26-year-old wife used to have a great relationship until one night, the wife “got drunk, had a one night stand, and got pregnant from it.”
Now, he doesn’t know if he’s in the wrong for refusing to adopt a child that isn’t his.
The affair occurred five years ago, and although they almost went through a divorce, couples therapy convinced them to stay together and try again — with some arrangements to how they would go about parenting.......
The only person here who wasn’t in the wrong was the child.

However I agree with the guy to not adopt. If he adopts and the wife goes crazy again leading to divorce, he would be responsible for child support. Or worse, she can leave him with custody.

I read the story. It did not say he had the baby tested to see if it really is his.
First I’d have the baby tested. If it’s not his I say DON”T adopt him. In fact I’m shocked he is still with her.

Better to divorce the mother. She is hoping to stick her husband with not just the title of father, but the ongoing financial committments. Get out of the water now, before the tide rises too high to stay in control.
It appears that she wants to avoid responsibility, maybe even have another ‘surpise’ child outside her marriage.
As this child gets older, the present husband will have less authority over him. The child may refuse to listen to somebody who is not even related to him, vua biology or adoption.
Cut your losses now.
Exactly, now she wants this idiot to assume a full fatherly role which would enable the court to assess child support should he divorce her. The fool should have left 5 years ago.

Hey, come on man, the Lady was like Mother Theresa until just one single time she made the fatal mistake of consuming too much alcohol and having a single one night stand with some random .Light lightning striking, this definitely one time event resulted in a pregnancy. Never happened before and certainly will never happen again. Happens to everybody at some point in their lives. the guy definitely needs to adopt the kid upfront right from the gitgo. /s
