Mississippi's governor won't say if he will BAN contraception next as Tate Reeves confirms his state will outlaw abortion if Roe v. Wade is overturned claiming 'decision making on abortion policy' should be up to the states

Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves refused to say on Sunday if his state would consider legislation outlawing contraception in the future if Roe v. Wade is overturned.

Reeves confirmed to NBC's Meet the Press host Chuck Todd that Mississippi would completely ban abortion at the state level if the landmark case were overturned by the Supreme Court.

'What about contraception and birth control, particularly IUDs? I mean, is this total ban that gets put in on abortion, is that going to have an impact on women that decide to have certain types of birth control like IUD?' Todd asked the governor of the deep red state.

'I don't think that it is going to apply to those that choose to use birth control,' Reeves said, avoiding a direct answer to the question.

'I believe that clearly a life begins at conception,' he added.

Later, Todd pushed the matter: 'You've just said that you believe life begins at conception. If there is legislation brought to you to ban contraception, would you sign it?'

'Well, I don't think that's going to happen in Mississippi,' Reeves said in a continued dodge of the question. 'I'm sure they'll have those conversations in other states.'

'But you're not answering the question,' Todd pointed out.

Be careful with language games as this issue gains prominence.

Condoms and diaphragms are methods of contraception. I think it unlikely that methods of that sort would be outlawed by any state. There are people who would oppose such methods, but it is a subset of a subset. Keeping the egg and sperm apart will seem like a pretty harmless and sensible practice to many people.

When the Left campaigns against “contraception” they will be working to ensure birth control pills, but they will talk about the issue as if condoms are being outlawed.

Many Republican politicians are not nimble enough to answer these questions, and will stumble and lose, taking the party down with them.

Banning contraception because you believe life begins at conception doesn’t make sense. If they’re talking specifically about “Plan B” or RU-486, they should be specific. They are using weasel words to scare women into thinking he’s dodging the question meaning he’s taking away condoms and The Pill.

That’s correct. They want to control the language to control debate, they want to make opposition seem as extreme and unpalatable and scary as possible to achieve victory at the ballot box and get their payday.

Almost no one in the political world talks about barrier contraception being problematic but the Left will use that umbrella term to instill FUD (fear, uncertainty & doubt)

If you take away the pill, a lot of women will go dem. And more than a few guys.

To me, that’s a bridge too far. Flame away.

We’re going to lose many more Rights due to Republican stupidity on this issue. They should simply oppose late term abortion.

Next step is to ban abstinence.

Actually it does - as I’ve been arguing elsewhere.

it’s the ORIGINAL Catholic opinion - any contraception is akin to pre-emptive murder and an “unnatural” usage of the act of sex.

Now I disagree with that concept and you could probably say that condoms don’t do that - but hormonal birth control?

"Mississippi's governor won't say if he will BAN contraception next as Tate Reeves confirms his state will outlaw abortion if Roe v. Wade is overturned claiming 'decision making on abortion policy' should be up to the states [??? emphasis added]"

Thank you for referencing that article Morgana. Please note that the following critique is directed at the article and not at you.

Federal versus state government murder of unborn children laws is not a matter of opinion.

More specifically, the Supreme Court scandalously lied about Roe v. Wade imo, the 10th Amendment clarifying in general that the Constitution's silence about things like the murder of unborn children make it uniquely a state power issue.

In fact, with all due respect to the family and supporters of the late Terri Schiavo, since the Constitution is also silent about euthanasia, the post-17th Amendment ratification, double-standard, corrupt Supreme Court should have kicked Roe v. Wade back to the state just as it did with Terri's case imo.

Insights welcome.

H O W E V E R...

Let's not get sidetracked because the corrupt, alleged election-stealing Democrats probably pulled the abortion card to try to save themselves in the 2022 midterm elections.

From another thread...

Regarding the alleged elite Democratic and RINO stealing of the 2020 presidential election, patriots cannot expect corrupt, alleged election stealing Congress to apply Section 3 of the 14th Amendment (rebellion) to itself and effectively fire itself, also fire corrupt state governments.

Excerpted from the 14th Amendment:

So Trump's red tsunami of patriot supporters must use their voting power to peacefully and effectively make Section 3 work by replacing Congress and state legislatures with Trump-endorsed candidates in the 2022 midterm elections.

Again, insights welcome.

Exactly. That’s taking on trouble that shouldn’t be taken on.

Condoms have been around a long time, but it was the pill that Tammy Wynette sang about.

I don't think anyone in GOP is calling for restrictions on the pill.

Remember that senate candidate against McCaskill (I think). They asked him similar “gotcha” questions and he fell right into it, saying something stupid (I think it was something about rape). He lost. We have to be careful.

Yep. They don't call us the "stupid party" for nothing.

The Democrats don't even need to bury their mines in the minefield. They leave them right out in the open and Republicans still step on them.

Governor Tate Reeves is a moron fir letting that just hang there as an issue to seize on.

Pulling out and having relations when a woman is not ovulating are forms of pregnancy mitigation and we never thought about outlawing those.

He could have simply said “I don’t know of and don’t think any like that is being spoken about, much less contemplated “

Rinse, repeat...
