ALBANY, N.Y. — Rep. Chris Jacobs has announced he will not seek another term in Congress, after the Republican faced rising backlash from the right following his announcement last week that he would support new gun control measures.
“It would be an incredibly divisive election for both the Republican Party and the people of the 23rd District,” Jacobs said Friday afternoon at a press conference in Buffalo. “The last thing we need is an incredibly negative half-truth filled media attack funded by millions of dollars of special interest money coming into our community around this issue of guns and gun violence and gun control.”

Jacobs was wrong to even think about compromising with the disarmers, but he did the right thing by bowing out. That man [F word]ed up, but was man enough to admit it and exit public life for the good of his party, principles, and Republic. I salute him!

I've said this here before, but Jacobs' district is pretty conservative by NY standards. The GOP, though, continues to put up losers like Jacobs as candidates, so I'm sure his replacement won't be any better.
