I have a really good friend who was at that concert. Supposedly his grandparents’s dacha wasn’t far from the airfield where the concert was and he walked/hiked over.

If you haven’t seen this one it’s worth a watch.

A group called Leningrad Cowboys teamed with the Red Army Choir not long after the Soviet Union collapsed to do this concert and one of the songs was Sweet Home Alabama. Funny and cool at the same time.

Kinda of sad because at the time there was great optimism relations would really change. Then after Yeltsin went south we kinda went back to the same old deal.

Amazing. The band members lack tattoos, the USSR police are standing the middle of the crowd and the song “Seek And Destroy Capitalism” at 41:00 is not the best for the long suffering proletariate the Mother Country. Metallica is fine and Megadeath is better.

Yeah I am not really a Metallica or metal fan but I can watch Enter Sandman over and over in that video. What a concert. The energy.

This concert, one of the most famous in history, took place on 28 September 1991 during the transition phase. The Soviet Union had collapsed in August 1991 and the Russian Federation would be formally established in December 1991.

Metallica is in terrific form here. They sound better live than in the studio. Thanks for posting!
